
ORLANDO, Fla. (WVUE) - The Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) spirit squads took home the top prizes at the 2024 UCA and UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship at Walt Disney World.
SLU Cheer won the gold medal in the UCA Open Coed Game Day competition for the third time in four years, earning a finals score of 97.1667 points. The victory adds to their previous national titles in 2021′s virtual competition and the 2023 Nationals event.
The Lionettes, SLU’s dance squad, claimed gold in the UDA Division I Game Day competition with a finals score of 94.1. They surpassed Omaha (92.9667) and Hofstra (92.7883). The Lionettes also secured the top score in both the Game Day finals and semi-finals, and finished ninths in the Division I Jazz competition.
SLU’s spirit squads now have a total of six national championship golds in the past seven years.
The Lionettes dance team previously won the titles in the Division I Hip Hop category in 2018 and 2021.
